This was our first stop over to our trip to Spain.

Sketch of Montpellier

Montpellier (in occitan Montpelhièr is a city of the south of France, chief town of Herault and Languedoc-Roussillon area.

Montpellier is located between Nimes and Beziers.

The city is located at 10 km of the Mediterranean (Palavas-the-Floods) by expressway and at 75 km of the mountainous point nearest (Aigoual Mount 1567 m, located in the department of Gard) (ski station of Prat-Peyrot). Montpellier is to 52 km of Nimes (Gard), 168 km of Marseille (Rhone delta), 248 km of Toulouse (Haute-Garonne).

It is also 750 km far from Paris.

Climate:

The climate of Montpellier is typically Mediterranean. It results from this from the days of precipitations very few but from the sometimes violent downpours, in particular in autumn from September to December.

On the contrary, in summer is often very dry, even arid in the back country of the garrigues, with only some precipitations in August related to the storms.

Contrary to a spread idea, it does not rain less in Montpellier than in Brest (750 to 800 mm annual), but precipitations are concentrated much and badly distributed.
